Servers & infrastructure
Virtualisation
Several systems on one machine, cleanly separated
What this is about
Instead of five half-idle servers, one well-utilised machine runs five separate systems. That saves power and space, and turns recovery into a matter of minutes instead of days.
What is included
- Choosing the platform to suit your environment
- Building the host system with redundant storage
- Moving existing servers into virtual machines
- Snapshots and backup per machine
- Separation of networks and access
- Handover with documentation and briefing
Process
How we go about it.
Plan
Calculate the requirement: cores, memory, storage, reserve.
Build
Set up and harden the host, connect the backup.
Migrate
Take over existing servers and test them.
Operate
Maintenance, updates, keeping an eye on capacity.
Frequent questions
This is what we are often asked.
Is it worthwhile for a small business?
As a rule, yes from two or three servers upwards, mainly because of the fast recovery.
What happens if the host fails?
Then the backup is what counts. Where requirements are high, we build two hosts so that machines can move between them.
Can old Windows programs keep running?
Usually yes, in a virtual machine of their own, cleanly separated from everything else.
